Cupping is a therapeautic technique that can be used to relieve inflammation, soften scar tissue, separate fused tissue layers, move or drain fluids. Cupping is not used as an irritant, but to draw out inflammation. Suction from the cup can lift and separate tissue, which is somewhat different than hands on massage where downward pressure is applied to the tissue being worked on. At JumpStart Physical Therapy we have used this therapeutic application as an adjunct to many of skilled techniques that our clinicians are already using and have had much success in achieving the benefits described above. We are excited to now offer this modality.
