Quadriceps and Hip Flexor Stretch

Here, Jenn is going to demonstrate a quadriceps and hip flexor stretch. The hip flexors are a group of muscles that run from the lower back across the hip to the leg while the quadriceps are the group of muscles in the front of the thigh running from the hip to the front of the knee.

While there are numerous ways to stretch these muscle groups Jenn will show a fairly common example:

  1. Start close to the edge of a table or bed.
  2. Loop the stretching strap around the ankle. Be sure the opposite leg is bent, allow the stretched leg to fall of the side of the bed while your trunk falls to a laying position. While keeping your back flat against the table, you may pull on the strap to increase the stretch or release it to decrease the stretch.

Caution should be taken to avoid pulling your foot out to the side. You should not experience back, hip or knee pain.

Stretches should be held for 30 seconds and be performed two times.
